Arne Slot The Next Liverpool Manager

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is set to succeed Jurgen Klopp as the new Liverpool manager this summer following reports that an agreement was reached between the two clubs on Friday. The Reds will pay a compensation fee of $11.8 million plus add-ons to Feyenoord to secure his services.

Surprisingly, Slot was not the favorite for the job a month ago but the reported move by the preferred candidate and Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim to meet with West Ham United in a bid to pressure Liverpool into making a quick move on him left the club disinterested and thus shifted their focused to Slot who has not shied away from expressing his excitement of moving to Mersey side terming the job as a fantastic opportunity of his career.

Speaking a few days ago, Slot said, "I'd like to become the new Liverpool manager. The two clubs (Liverpool and Feyenoord) are in talks and I am confident and waiting for them to reach an agreement."

And while the 45-year-old Dutch tactician is eager for his job, he will have huge and heavy shoes to fill considering that Jurgen Klopp has guided Liverpool to all major titles over his 9 years at the elm while improving them from a side that had only finished in the top 4 once in the previous 6 years to finishing top 4 in 7 of the last 9 seasons.

But Slot, who had a hard start to his managerial career getting relegated with Cambuur as an assistant manager in 2016 but rose to win the Eredivisie with Feyenoord last season, will believe his growth and experience over the last 10 years will make him a success at Liverpool.

It only remains to be seen whether he will replicate his 61% career win rate at Anfield or he will struggle like his Dutch counter part Erik ten Hag who flourished with Ajax but found little success with Manchester United.
