Kylian Mbappe splashed $566,000 on a painting of the late Brazilian football legend Pele during a charity gala on Thursday evening in Paris. The 25-year-old beat his PSG teammate and friend Achraf Hakimi in a bidding war to get himself the special art piece named 'The King' by Paris based artist Alexandre Hopare.

Even though he was obviously not the richest man in the room considering presence of several billionaires including Antoine Arnault the elderst son of the richest man in the world, Bernard Arnault, who boosts a staggering wealth of over $214 billion which dwarfs the PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi's $8 billion net worth, Mbappe's purchase was the record sale of the night which was the first 'ParisForGood' charity event that collected around $2.94 million which will be channeled towards improving the lives of autistic kids and supporting their families in conjunction with the #PSGforCommunity and Naked Heart France foundations.

Having met several times and shared memorable moments with Pele during his life, it's obvious why the outgoing Parisian forward was willing to cough up such amount for a painting of one of the greatest football icons in history. Surprisingly, the winning bid was actually less than 3 days pay of Mbappe's current contract at Parc des Princes.

With the Frenchman having already equaled the Pele's World Cup record of 12 goals in just 2 tournaments by his 24th birthday (4 goals in 2018 & 8 in 2022) it remains to be seen whether seeing the painting often will motivate him towards leading France to 2 more World Cup titles to also equal Pele's 3 World Cup triumphs.
