England Booed by Their Fans Following Defeat to Iceland in Final Warm Up Match Ahead of Euros

The England team was booed by their fans at the end of their 1-0 defeat by Iceland in a final Euro 2024 warm-up match at Wembley stadium on Friday.

Despite of enjoying 68% of possession in the game, the 3 lions could not break the stubborn Iceland side that was actually better in the final third, registering 4 shots on target out 8 total attempts from which Jon Dagur notched the only goal of the match in the 12th minute.

In comparison, England, who had over 80,000 supporters behind them in the send-off fixture, hit the target once from 13 total shots in 90 minutes. The underwhelming performance left fans disappointed so much that they could not resist from whistling the team at the end of the match with 8 days to go. Being among the favorites in the upcoming Euros, England's sluggish display on Friday evening was quite unconvincing.

Speaking after the defeat, the manager, Gareth Southgate, understood the supporters' displeasure, "I completely understand. We didn't play well enough to keep them excited within the game. We had some very good chances that normally would be finished which could have given a different complexion to the game. But that could have masked some flaws that were apparent tonight. I've learnt a lot from the game but no qualms with the supporters reaction. We have to play good enough but tonight we didn't do that so we have to accept the reaction," he said.

England will kick off their campaign against Serbia next Sunday, then face Denmark 4 days later before locking horns with Slovenia in their final Group C match on June 25th.
