Cristiano Ronaldo Reaction To Being Subbed of During Portugal Defeat By Georgia
Cristiano Ronaldo was left fuming after being subbed off in the 66th minute of Portugal's 2-0 defeat by Georgia in a Euro 2024 final Group F match on Wednesday.
Having started in attack of a hugely changed Portugal team featuring less than 3 of the usual starters, Ronaldo was left frustrated after failing to get on the scoresheet in the game they hugely dominated with 73% of possession as Georgia struck early on through Kvicha Kvaratskhelia in the second minute of the game.
After Portugal conceded a second goal in the 57th minute, Ronaldo was one of the players Roberto Martinez decided to take off. After holding back his irritation in-front of the manager, the 39-year-old angrily kicked water bottles in front of the bench before joining the rest of his mates to watch the rest of the match.
Even though Portugal had already qualified for the round of 16 before the game courtesy of their two wins in the first two group fixtures, Ronaldo's frustrations were understandable considering that it was the first time in his career he had failed to score in the group stage of a major international tournament having netted in all of the groups stages of the last 10 tournaments since his first in the Euro 2004.
Regardless, the Al-Nassr forward joined his teammates in applauded their supporters after the match which became their first competitive defeat since the shocking 1-0 loss to Morocco in the World Cup in December 2022.
Ronaldo will now be looking to score his first goal of the tournament and improve his record breaking international tally when Portugal face Slovenia in the round of 16 on Monday.
