Football fans were left surprised after a Malaga player accepted money in exchange of his jersey. Following Malaga's 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid B in the Spanish 3rd division match last Sunday, attacking midfielder Daniel Lorenzo went over to sign autographs during which one fan asked for his match worn shirt.

And while popular football stars casually give away their jerseys after games, the 21-year-old was seen taking a 50 euro note from the fan before handing over the jersey.

The peculiar incident attracted huge attention on social media circles with many fans question how inappropriate it is for a football star to sell his jersey to a fan.

However, according to the Real Madrid academy star, there was an understandable reason behind his action. "The club asks us for 50 euros

after a certain number of jerseys are given away. I'm not a millionaire although I would like to be one. So it seemed natural to accept the money that was offered to me," he explained in the midst of the growing controversy.

While footballers across the big leagues in Europe earn at least tens or hundreds of thousands per week, Lorenzo has not been so blessed so far as he has, since making his senior debut for the Andalusians in September 2021, played in the Spanish second Division on a wage of around $2960 per week which is about $308730 before tax over the previous 2 years before Malaga got relegated to the 3rd tier at the end of last season.

And given the wage structures in the Primera Federacion, Lorenzo is definitely not a millionaire and he would have minded accepting the $53 for his jersey.
