Atlanta United Brutally Trolled Lionel Messi After Beating Inter Miami 5 2

"Where is Messi?" chanted the over 70,000 Atlanta United FC fans as their team thrashed Inter Miami 5-2 in a MLS match at the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta on Saturday. Messi was back in Fort Lauderdale following the game at home sipping mate tea after taking his sons for academy matches earlier in the day. His absence in the game didn't prevent the Atlanta faithful from enjoying the moment with their team which not only avenge a 4-0 demolition by Messi and Inter Miami 2 months ago but also ended the Herons 12 match unbeaten run that kicked off the moment the Argentine forward made his debut back in July.

The banter did not end with the supporters, as Atlanta United's social media handles were flooded with trolls aimed directly at Messi after the end of the match. "Tell 'em to bring the whole squad next time," read a full-time post from the winners, clearly referring to the absence of Messi and Jordi Alba who proved key in the Leagues Cup group meeting between the two clubs, where Messi netted a brace and set up the Anthony Taylor's 4th goal of the match.

In response to Messi's instagram post of a pizza by one restuarant in Miami, Atlanta United shared a picture of a pizza with the toppings spelling L with a caption that reads, "Here you have your pizza for the trip." A really ruthless take from the 6th placed side in the MLS eastern conference, clear of the Miamians who sit second bottom with 28 points from 27 games and 7 points off the play-off position with 7 games left in regular season. In case Messi inspires Miami into the play-offs, it will be interesting to see the post-match reactions from Atlanta United if the two teams meet again.
