Kylian Mbappe Plays Basketball in Camroon Amid PSG Contract Ultimatum
After his exhibition match against Cameroonian second division side FC Vent d’Etoudi was cancelled due to security concerns, Kylian Mbappe played a friendly basketball match with the club's honorary president and former French NBA player Joakim Noah with a group of ecstatic kids before taking part in a futsal game later in the evening.
Mbappe's 3 day tour of Cameroon, his father's country of origin, has seen him visit the capital Yaounde and Douala in the south where he paid a visit to his father's ancestry village of Djebale Island. His humanitarian and social activities in the central African country have really kept him away from the drama surrounding his future that is ensuing in Paris.
It's reported that PSG sent a letter to Mbappe on Monday making it clear that he has until the end of July to extend his contract beyond 2024 or be sold this summer. The ultimatum was issued by the League 1 champions after they got wind of Mbappe's plan to play out his contract and leave for free next summer.
It has also been claimed that the PSG bosses believe that the French international has already agreed to join Real Madrid next July thus prompting them to take stern measure to at least scope some money from his sale following their intensive investment on him to the tune of over $600 million over the last 6 years.
The Parisians are therefore waiting for Mbappe's final decision possibly next week, to declare his availability in the transfer market and set his asking price, a situation closely monitored by Real Madrid. What remains to be seen is whether the forward will agree to take a pay cut at Real Madrid if he decides to leave this summer because with the current La Liga financial regulations, it's unlikely that the Los Blancos will match his current remuneration of $72.4 million in wages and bonuses per year.
