Mauricio Pochettino kicked off his tenure in charge of the USA national team on a winning note after guiding them to a 2-nil victory over Panama in a friendly match in Austin, Texas on Saturday.

AC Milan 21-year-old midfielder Yunus Musah tapped in Christian Pulisic's cross from point blank to net his first ever goal for the Yanks, opening the scoring in the 49th minute. The hosts would however find themselves on the receiving end soon after with keeper Matt Turner being forced to make a brilliant double save to preserve the lead.

Eventually, PSV striker Ricardo Pepi came off the bench to seal Pochettino's dream start by calmly slotting low past the Panamanian goalkeeper in the 94th minute. USA were the slightly better team overall registering 4 shots on goal from 11 attempts while enjoying 55% possession as compared to Panama who chalked 3 strikes on target from 13 shots in total coming from their 45% possession.

Speaking in the post match interview former Chelsea boss was impressed with the result. "I think it was a very professional performance and I think we are happy because we got all the goals we set before the game. I think it's an important victory. I'm so happy because I see the staff and the players made a fantastic show and of course with the help of fans here in Austin," said Pochettino.

The USMNT will take a few days off before traveling to Guadalajara to play Mexico in another friendly match on Tuesday.
